makeyourownthen:

Gail shared some good vibes and advice for this MYOT project:

The idea here is not to replace or denigrate fanfic or fanart, the idea is simply to get people connected and exposed, where people can encourage each other and share ideas and tips.

And hopefully, some people will end up making comics of some kind together.

Very exciting.

I don’t want to butt in, but my advice is start small, beware of scope creep, be aware of the medium you are using, and take full advantage of the viral nature of Tumblr.

Good luck! Spread the word!

You heard the woman!

Starting small is a good idea. Maybe we could try some restrictions? Like, an artist posts a drawing of a character he or she created and asks for some ideas for complete stories only one ten pages long? Or a writer describes a plot for a ten page story in five bullet points looking for artists to work with to take a crack at it?

What do you think? Do some interesting restrictions lower the bar to participation, or will this work better as more of a bulletin board?

(Also, where are all the artists?)

You’re bound to get more writers than artists in something like this.  Writing just has a lower bar of entry.

That being said, I really like the sound of that extrapolation idea.  Taking a piece of artwork out of context and applying your own imagination to explain it’s contents is a nice test of a writer’s creative capabilities.
